If kayak camping in Point Reyes has been on your list you have to save this one!

Kayak camping in Point Reyes might be one of our favorite ways we have explored California. And honestly, after many years of backpacking trips, this just might be my favorite way to camp.

Instead of hiking everything into a backcountry campsite, we packed our gear into dry bags, loaded everything into kayaks, and paddled across Tomales Bay to camp along the shoreline of Point Reyes National Seashore. Our backs thanked us for this one!

For a trip like this, you need the normal camping essentials along with dry bags for anything you want to keep dry, rat sacks or another approved way to properly store your food, camp chairs, plenty of water, and, of course, kayaks and paddles.

But the good news is that you don’t have to own all of that gear to make a trip like this happen.

We rented our kayaks and some gear from @pointreyesadventureco , and they also have camping gear available to rent if you do not have everything you need. If you are newer to kayaking, they can give you paddle instruction before you head out and help you feel comfortable on the water. They also make sure you understand the area, conditions and where you are headed before sending you off onto the bay.

Tomales Bay is such a unique place to kayak camp because you can spend the day paddling along the coast, pull your kayak directly onto the beach near camp, watch the sunset from the shoreline and, during the right conditions, even see bioluminescence in the water after dark.

It feels incredibly remote while still being an adventure that is very doable with a little planning.

If kayak camping in Point Reyes has been on your list, save this one. We have a lot more from this trip coming because this is an adventure we would do again in a heartbeat.

Been daydreaming about this New England fall drive ever since.

What started as a simple drive to chase fall colors through New Hampshire and Vermont turned into one of the most beautiful drives we’ve ever had.

It’s getting to that time of year.

Here are the spots that completely blew our minds and a few tips if you’re planning to visit soon:

Artist Bluff, NH - The short hike is so worth it. Bring layers, it’s chilly and windy up top but the view over Echo Lake is unreal, get there early to beat the crowds.

Flume Gorge, NH - One of the most magical walks through towering granite walls and rushing waterfalls.
Get there early to avoid crowds and be prepared for the 800 stairs you will need to climb.

Stowe, VT - This charming mountain town is postcard-perfect. Don’t forget to stop somewhere to get yourself a donut and hot cider. The scenic drive up to Smugglers Notch is one of the most dramatic routes in all of Vermont.

Lake Willoughby, VT - The drive between the cliffs will leave you speechless. Bring a camera, and if you have time, walk down to the beach area, it’s peaceful and offers a completely different view.

two kids sprinting ahead on the trail, pockets full of rocks they swore they needed, and snacks disappearing before we’ve even started.

Some days it’s easy and relaxing while other days it’s big adventures, the kind that means early mornings, extra layers, and more planning.

Each adventure has its ups and downs but they are the memories we never forget.

When we first hit the road we figured it’d be a fun year, then back to normal life.

Somewhere along the way “normal life” just… became this. The roadtrips, the amazing adventures , and creating memories together.

We used to think it was all about the destination, the view, the landmark, the photo. Turns out it’s the stuff in between, campfire dinners, the wrong turn that ended up being the whole trip, watching the kids see new things.

We really don’t know if this is our forever plan, but the best part of it is that we can change it up anytime it feels right.

There is so much to explore, biking around town, hiking to Bridal Veil Falls, trying delicious food, and soaking in all the incredible colors, wildlife, and scenery along the way.

Our kids could not get enough of the Telluride gondola!

We rode it over and over, picking a new seat each time to see the mountains from a different perspective.
The gondola connecting Telluride and Mountain Village is completely free, making it such a fun and easy way to experience the mountains with kids.

Telluride definitely gave us some memories we won’t forget.

What my eyes saw vs what actually made the camera roll. A picture never quite does it justice, but it gives us something to look back on. Here are 10 of our favorite places and memories, always worth stopping for the shot.

What inspired this post: my daughter was telling her friend about all the pictures we have around our bus home from our adventures, including the big picture, and she said, “Now this is the famous picture when we were in Canada.”
